Random thoughts on Trelawney
Apr. 9th, 2008 10:52 amI don't know why, but this morning when I woke up I was thinking about Trelawney and why Dumbledore kept her at the school all those years when she was quite obviously a poor teacher, and a drunk to boot. I hardly think it was out of the goodness of his heart.
There were a few motivations I could think of, the first being that she does sometimes give out accurate prophecies, and seeing as that is the case, Dumbledore might have wanted to keep her close just in case she ever had anything else useful to say. He may have also thought that her life would be in danger if due to the fact that she had been the one who delivered the original prophecy about Harry (the one that was destroyed in the ministry incident). But then I also wondered if he possibly kept her around as a constant reminder to Severus, sort of a way of daily reminding him of his betrayal, keeping the guilt and shame of it alive, if you will, just to make sure he stayed loyal. That's fairly sick, to be sure, but there are alot of things that I just didn't understand about Dumbledore after "Deathly Hallows".
Just some musings...
